Consciousness is the fundamental space where our thoughts are created. Along with thought and memory, consciousness is one of the three essential components of the mind. On a cognitive and functional level, consciousness is the mind's capacity to make us aware of what is happening, allowing us to be conscious of our own existence, stored memories, mental states, and the world around us.
